Herman Steyn
Executive Director
Herman has been in investment management since 1985, holding senior positions in several asset management companies. He began his career when awarded a bursary from Old Mutual, studying a BBus Sci majoring in Actuarial Science, Statistics (Honours) and Economics. After a period at Old Mutual, he co-founded an asset management company. In 1993 Herman started the first index tracker fund, the Composite Unit Trust, in South Africa. This was sold to Investec, which he joined in 1995. He established Investec’s international fund management capability, establishing fund structures in Dublin.
In 1998 Herman and Guy Toms founded Prescient Investment Management which applies its investment techniques to cash, bonds, equities, balanced portfolios and asset allocation.

Liang Du
Executive Director
Liang Du joined Prescient Investment Management in 2005 as a portfolio analyst on the Equity team where he helped establish Prescient’s first Equity product. Liang was later promoted to fund manager of the Positive Return and Balanced portfolios and eventually became head of Asset Allocation, responsible for asset allocation decisions across all Prescient portfolios.
Liang, born in China, has always taken a keen interest in investments in Mainland China and after a decade with Prescient in South Africa decided to head up a new business unit for Prescient in China. Today Liang and his team are responsible for all investments in China.
Liang has an MBA with distinction from UCT, CQF, is a CFA charterholder, and graduated with a B.Bus.Sc degree from UCT.

Dillie Malherbe
Non-Executive Director
Mr Malherbe qualified as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa and worked with the predecessor firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers before joining Rand Merchant Bank in 1985. In 1990 he joined Rembrandt Group Limited and was involved with Richemont at that time. Since its formation in 2000, he served first as Chief Executive Officer and then as Deputy Chairman of VenFin Limited until 2009 when that company was acquired by Remgro Limited.
Mr Malherbe continues to serve as a director of Richemont Securities S.A., Remgro Limited (appointed non-executive Co-Deputy Chairman in November 2014), Reinet Investments Manager S.A. and Pension Corporation Group Limited. -
David Ibbotson
Non-Executive Director
David is a Director of Stonehage Fleming Group. He has over twenty years’ experience in offshore legal and financial services, with particular experience in funds, trust, banking, multi-jurisdictional regulatory matters and litigation.
Prior to joining the Group in 2010, David obtained a combined Honours degree in Law and French from the University of Cardiff and a Certificate d’Etudes Juridiques from Universite de Nantes before qualifying as an English Barrister (non-practicing). -
Guy Gilson
Non-Executive Director
Guy heads the Investment Management business of the Stonehage Fleming Jersey office and has over 30 years’ experience in the investment and wealth management sector.
Prior to joining the Stonehage Fleming in 2007 he was Business Development Director with HSBC Investments and has also worked in the Trust, Private Banking, Investment Management and Insurance industries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Guy obtained a BA (Honours) in Economics followed by a range of professional qualifications and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.
